In short:
Oscar Piastri sits fifth in the drivers' championship after 12 races.
Piastri placed fourth in the British Grand Prix and second in Austria earlier this month.
What's next?
The Hungarian Grand Prix will be held on Sunday at 11pm AEST.
Halfway through his second season in Formula 1, Oscar Piastri is looking more like a contender with each race.
McLaren's Australian driver has made strides in 2024 as McLaren has surged up the F1 table to sit third in the constructors' championship, still in the hunt to claim the title by the end of the year.
While his British teammate Lando Norris has taken plenty of attention with his maiden grand prix win in Miami and his battles with world champion Max Verstappen, Piastri has quietly produced great drives.
A second place at the Monaco Grand Prix is the highlight of the first half of the season, but it was his performance at the British Grand Prix earlier this month that caught the attention of many.
Piastri was fourth, despite being cruelled by a poor strategy decision from his team to keep him out for one lap too many as the rain was falling.
Piastri was second at that point and on the rear of Norris who was leading before McLaren pitted the Brit, but critically left Piastri to drive on a wet track with old, dry tyres.
The way Piastri responded to that mid-race setback and stormed home to fourth place, rapidly shrinking the gap to Norris who finished third, has given the Australian confidence for this weekend's race in Hungary.
"I'm heading to Hungary off the back of two strong weekends in Austria and Great Britain where I've been happy with my driving," he said.
"We had some missed opportunities at Silverstone but it was clear that there was good pace in the car and that is encouraging.
"The Hungaroring is a track that I had success at in the junior formulae so I'm looking forward to returning. The whole team is going into this race with a lot of confidence and motivation."
Piastri sits fifth in the drivers' championship at the halfway point of the season.
This weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix will be held on Sunday at 11pm, AEST.
McLaren had a successful outing in Hungary last season.
Norris finished second behind Verstappen, while Piastri placed fifth.
