Australia will have to sweat on the result of this morning’s clash between Spain and Canada after a 77-71 loss to Greece in its final Group A match.
If Spain wins, the Boomers are out of Paris 2024, but if the Canadians, who start as favourites, win then the Boomers should finish third in the group and have a chance of being one of the two third-place sides to make the quarter-finals.
But their hopes of a medal are hanging by a thread and even if they make the knockouts, they could still be drawn against Team USA who look the runaway favourites for the gold medal.
Jock Landale led the Boomers with 17 points, Patty Mills had 13 points and Dyson Daniels had 11 points, six rebounds and eight assists.
“We’ve got our work cut out now,” Mills told Nine. “We have to keep our spirit high and work together. We just need a chance.”
Giannis Antetokounmpo had a game-high 20 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
