The men remain in Broome Hospital in a serious condition.

Two men have been seriously injured after their light aircraft crashed in Western Australia's far north.

The plane came down near the eastern border of Leopold Downs Station (Yarranggi), about 60 kilometres north east of Fitzroy Crossing, on Sunday afternoon.

The pilot and his passenger were taken to Fitzroy Crossing before they were flown to Broome Hospital by the Royal Flying Doctor Service overnight.

The WA Country Health Service says both men are in a serious condition.

The ABC has confirmed the people involved were not staff members at the cattle station and that the aircraft was being privately operated.

An Australian Transport Safety Bureau spokesperson said the incident had not been reported yet but initial inquiries were underway.

The ABC understands the plane was extensively damaged in the crash.

The incident comes less than a fortnight after two pilots were killed when their helicopters collided on Mount Anderson Station, south of Derby, in the western Kimberley.
