Yesterday at the National Velodrome, the Australian men's team pursuit finished with the top time in qualifying, so they will be seeded number one for the pursuit later on night 11.

Now it's nearly time for the women's pursuit team to compete in qualifying. Australia will be going fifth of 10 teams. Their line-up: Georgia Baker, Sophie Edwards, Chloe Moran and Maeve Plouffe.

There are 10 teams in the event, they set a time for the 4000m, and then the top eight teams qualify for the knockout section, where the pursuit bit comes in.

It's a bit like footy finals, with the sixth-fastest facing the seventh-fastest, fifth versus eighth, first versus fourth and second versus third.

The teams start on opposite sides of the track, and go like the clappers for 12 laps. There are four riders on each team, and they take it in turns on the front, before "peeling off" - going up the banking and letting teammates go through before dropping in at the back.

A team's time is defined by the third rider crossing the line.
