It feels like we're repeating ourselves, but it was yet another golden day for Australia as Noemie Fox claimed victory in the kayak cross.

Meanwhile, Swedish superstar Armand Duplantis had the Olympic stadium rocking when he cleared the pole vault bar to set a new world record.

But there was plenty more weird, wonderful and heartbreaking moments around the Games that you might have missed. Here's some of the best of it.

1. A Wilde ride for Kiwi triathlete

New Zealand's Hayden Wilde is a two-time Olympic medallist and a near permanent feature on triathlon podiums around the world, but even the best can come unstuck.

In the first leg of the mixed relay, Wilde got tangled up with France's Pierre le Corre in an ugly bike crash.

While le Corre struggled to get his chain back on, Wilde's issues were less mechanical and more maxillofacial.

With blood streaming from his brow, Wilde ultimately handed over to Nicole van der Kaay with New Zealand in 13th spot and the Kiwis never recovered, finishing 14th.

Germany would eventually claim gold, the USA silver, and Team GB bronze. Australia came 13th.

2. Take your marks — set — Sweet Caroline

The tension is always high before a race in the Olympic Stadium, and that was certainly the case as Aussie Mia Gross and six other women lined up for her 200m repechage.

But on Monday night (AEST) they were made to wait on the track while the stereo system blasted Neil Diamond's hit Sweet Caroline.

The full three-minute singalong played while seven of the best athletes in the world did their best to stay focused.

And spare a thought for Ecuador's Nicole Caicedo, who less than an hour prior had been disqualified from her 400m heat for a false start.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, she was slowest out of the blocks by some distance after Sweet Caroline-athon.

3. GOAT recognises GOAT at the gymnastics

It was the final chance to watch Simone Biles at the Paris Olympics, and NFL legend Tom Brady seized it.

Like so many top athletes and A-list celebrities before him, the former quarterback came to see the American superstar performing at Bercy Arena.

He did not get the chance to see Biles on the top of an Olympic podium, though.

Biles could have tied the record for most Olympic gold medals by any female athlete in any sport with two more wins on the final day of gymnastics competitions. But she fell during her beam routine, and then earned silver in the floor exercise after a routine that included a couple of costly steps out of bounds.

Brady attended the beam competition with his daughter, Vivian, sitting close to the front row. He also met with Biles's teammate Sunisa Lee, who posted a picture of her posing with Brady on her Instagram account.

Brady, who turned 47 on Saturday, posed for a lot of pictures with Lee, 21. But when they separated, all the fans followed Lee.

The large number of celebrities who have turned out at the gymnastics venue sometimes gave the impression that the Cannes Film Festival was going on at the Bercy Arena.

A-listers Nicole Kidman, Natalie Portman and Serena Williams previously gathered at the Olympic venue to watch the most decorated athlete in the history of gymnastics. Spike Lee, Michael Phelps, Lady Gaga, Tom Cruise and Jessica Chastain also made a stop at the gymnastics venue.

4. Comaneci hits out after heartbreaking scenes for Romanian

Gymnastics great Nadia Comaneci was furious after fellow Romanian Ana Barbosu lost her bronze to American Jordan Chiles on Tuesday morning when US coaches called for an inquiry that boosted Chiles' score and left Barbosu off the podium and crying on the floor at the Paris Olympics.

"I can't believe we play with athletes mental health and emotions like this … let's protect them," the nine-time Olympic medallist wrote on X.

Barbosu initially thought she'd won a medal in the floor final on the last day of gymnastics events. Chiles was the final competitor, and the initial score posted on the video board was lower than Barbosu's, prompting the Romanian to grab her country's flag and begin celebrating.

Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu halts her celebrations to look up the board, as it was revealed American Jordan Chiles had been bumped up to bronze follow a scoring protest.

Moments later, it was announced that Chiles's coaches had asked judges to review the difficulty component of her score. That led to a .1 boost, bumping Chiles to 13.766 — just ahead of Barbosu's 13.700.

When the revised results flashed, the 18-year-old Barbosu looked up toward the giant screen and froze.

She was then filmed exiting the venue in tears, devastated.

“At this point, we had nothing to lose, so I was like ‘We’re just going to try,'" Team USA coach Cecile Landi said of the inquiry.

"I honestly didn’t think it was going to happen but when I heard her scream, I turned around and was like ‘what?’”
