Australian racing driver Jack Doohan will compete in Formula 1 next season after being announced as Alpine's newest driver.

Son of five-time motorcycle world champion Mick, Doohan will partner Pierre Gasly for the French team.

Doohan will replace Esteban Ocon who is moving to Haas next season.

The 21-year-old has been a racing prodigy since his early teens, competing around the world in karting and several formula championships.

Doohan described the announcement as "a dream come true" while acknowledging the sacrifices made by his family.

"A truly surreal feeling to secure my future with Alpine as a Formula 1 Driver for 2025," he wrote on social media.

"A dream come true, but something that could not have been obtained without many personal sacrifices from me and family.

"An opportunity I intend to grab with two hands and leave no stone unturned both on and off the track."

Doohan finished second in the 2021 Formula 3 championships and second in the Formula 2 championship in 2022.

The Gold Coast-born driver has been a reserve driver for Alpine since 2023, after fellow Australian Oscar Piastri left the French team and joined McLaren.

Alpine infamously announced Piastri as their driver for the 2023 season before the Australian declared no deal had been signed.

Piastri then signed with McLaren, leaving Alpine red-faced.

The first race of the season will be held in Melbourne at Albert Park on March 16.
