Earlier this week, we reported that Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has joined TikTok. Dutton now has 150 followers, with his first video on the housing crisis racking up a little over 1000 views.

Coalition Senator Jane Hume was asked about his TikTok debut on Sunrise this morning, where she was interviewed alongside Labor Minister Clare O’Neil.

“Perhaps if [Dutton] had thrown in some dance moves with it, it might have been a little bit more appealing,” Hume joked.

“Hey, you’ve got to go where the people are. Peter Dutton has a message for young people here that we want them to get into the housing market. We don’t want them to be renters all of their lives. That’s where the young Australians are. So that’s where we speak to them.”

Asked if she was on TikTok, Hume joked that she was “practising [her] dance moves”.

She said her signing up would “depend on the tolerance level and the level of humiliation that my kids will tolerate”.

Meanwhile, fellow panellist Clare O’Neil has an active TikTok account: “I’m right into it. I’m the most cringe”.

“Jane, this is really important for you, can you please make sure that Peter Dutton promises there will be no breakdancing of any kind. I can’t take that,” she joked.

“One political video maybe is fine. We’ve got to draw the line somewhere don’t we.”
