The Crows gave away pick 46 in this year's draft for Melbourne's third-round selection in 2025.
The Dees then used that newly acquired pick in a massive swap with Essendon.
Melbourne gave up five of their picks in this year's draft (currently picks 28, 40, 46, 54 and 65) as well as its first-round pick in the 2025 draft.
The Bombers in return handed the Dees their first-round pick for this year's draft (currently pick 9) and it's third-round picks in this year's draft and in 2025.

Essendon trades 2024 first-round pick (currently No.9) and a 2025 third-round pick to Melbourne in exchange for two 2024 second-round picks (currently No.28 and No.40), two 2024 third-round picks (currently No.46 and No.54), a 2024 fourth-round pick (No.65) and a 2025 first-round pick.
That's where we'll end things on day six
We've come to the end of the day's play once again.
It's been another fascinating day of trading.
We didn't have any players move today, but some pretty hefty shuffling of picks.
SURELY tomorrow is the day we get some more movement.
I'll be back at 9am AEDT to lead you through it all.
Catch you then!

Will there be any more action tonight?
Hey Chris, just curious mate, with the bits of movement we’ve had in the last hour or so do you expect any of the dominoes to fall tonight?
- Gus
Hi Gus,
I don't believe there will be any more official moves happening tonight.
The progress on the three-way trade tells me that'll take place tomorrow at some stage.
What's the relationship like between Oliver and the Demons?
Great work mate.
From all reports, is Clayton Oliver’s position at the Dees untenable? Can they make up? Or are Geelong a problematic player to All-Aus factory? Like Stengel and potentially Jack Martin?
- Banjo
Hi Banjo,
According to all the reports we've seen, the relationship appears beyond repair between Clayton Oliver and Geelong.
However, Melbourne certainly seems to think it isn't completely broken.
Just how bad it is remains the million-dollar question really.
Could the Eagles walk Baker to the draft?
If the Cats are threatening to take Smith to the draft if the Dogs don’t accept 17, why are West Coast not doing the same thing with Baker and pick 26? Both are about the same level of undervaluing…
- Why is Baz different to Baker
Hi Why,
You make an excellent point. Liam Baker is in the same boat as Bailey Smith.
They are both out of contract and under the amount of years of service required to be free agents.
However, walking a player to the draft is seen as a bit of a low move around the competition, so teams prefer not to actually do it.
In the case of Baker, the Tigers and the Eagles, it appears the two teams are much closer to a deal than the Cats and Dogs are on Smith.
Carlton hunting West Coast's top pick
IT IS ALL HAPPENING.
AFL.com.au's Cal Twomey reporting that Carlton is now hunting West Coast's first-round pick in this year's draft (currently No.3).
Carlton could send picks 12 and 14 to the Eagles, with 14 then being sent to Richmond in a deal for Liam Baker.
West Coast is also interested in Matthew Owies, so he could be included in this same deal as well as a makeweight.

Daniel Rioli trade could follow reported three-way deal
Like we mentioned before, sometimes it only takes one deal to make things happen.
According to the Herald Sun's Jon Ralph, the three-way trade between Collingwood, Port Adelaide and the Gold Coast, could have an impact on Daniel Rioli moving to the Suns as well.
Ralph is reporting that the Suns are likely to send picks 6 and 23 to the Tigers for Rioli, with the Tigers sending some later picks back to the Gold Coast to help the Suns match a bid for gun academy prospect Leo Lombard.
B... Bailey, is that you?
If, as you say, nobody but Geelong would draft Bailey Smith, why would the Bulldogs not take any deal? Otherwise they get… nothing?
Asking for a friend.
- B. Smith
Hi B. Smith, who is definitely not Bailey Smith.
Don't worry Bazlenka, you're not going to end up in the draft.
The Bulldogs are simply posturing, and they'll accept whatever Geelong offers at the deadline because they don't want to lose you for nothing.
What happens if Bailey Smith goes to the draft?
Question. If Bailey Smith goes into the draft, can’t any team select him ( when its their turn )?
- Mark
Hi Mark,
The short answer to your question is yes, they absolutely can.
However, teams play too nice in the AFL, so it won't happen.
If you gave this sort of chaotic scenario to the NBA, a rival club would 100 per cent draft Smith and force him to play there.
The AFL isn't quite there yet in terms of pettiness. We'll get there one day.
Port, Collingwood and Gold Coast close in on three-way deal
Here we go team, looks like we've manifested some movement together, well done all.
Nine's Tom Morris with the report while dropping a lil' Fabrizio Romano on the tweet if you don't mind. We respect it.
This is the deal that could unlock Dan Houston's move to Collingwood.
I love the fact that a player who most of us probably would have forgotten is still in the AFL system, Rory Atkins, could be the piece that unlocks such a huge trade.
God bless the trade period.
The latest on James Peatling's move to Adelaide
Any update on the Peatling deal?
- Robert
Hi Robert,
According to AFL.com.au, Adelaide is looking at trading a future second-rounder as well as later picks being exchanged between them and GWS for James Peatling.
At this stage, the Giants are after two picks for Peatling, who has a four-year offer from the Crows.
It's absolute crickets out here
Has there been anything latest on clayton oliver and bailey smith.
- James
Hi James,
Absolutely no news on either Clayton Oliver or Bailey Smith today.
The Oliver thing sparked up again on Friday, but has since quietened down.
Melbourne president Brad Green shot down suggestions Oliver would be dealt on Friday as well.
The latest on Smith is that Geelong has offered up its first-rounder this year (pick 17), but the Bulldogs are asking for more.
Why the big hold-up?
While some clubs seem to dragging their feet, are there some deals that are dependent on others happening first? Are you able to summarise which deals can’t/won’t happen without another happening first? (Big ask but you seem to have the time)
- Christopher
Hi Christopher,
There are definitely deals that are intertwined that are holding things up.
By the sounds of it, the one that's central to a few things is Gold Coast deciding who it will trade pick 13 to.
You've got to think if they deal that to Collingwood, then the Dan Houston, Joe Richards and John Noble deals will all happen pretty soon afterwards. They might even happen in the same deal.
It is often the case when one domino falls that the others fall very quickly afterwards.
Clubs are all playing poker right now it seems.
Is Tim Membrey going to Essendon?
Is there any news on Tim Membrey going to essendon.
- Henry
Hi Henry,
Tim Membrey is one of a number of players who have their futures up in the air at the moment.
At this stage, there doesn't seem to be any link between and Essendon, although that could obviously change.
What is Luke Parker worth?
in a perfect world parker is worth pick 44 right?
- liam
Hi Liam,
Yeah, I'd tend to agree that a fair price for Luke Parker is North's pick 44.
Parker was one of the AFL's elite midfielders, but that was at least 2-3 years ago. He's got one year left on his deal, and is turning 32 in a month.
He also struggled to get into Sydney's team this year, playing just 10 games.
North's first offer of pick 62 was definitely too low, but I wouldn't give up anything more than 44 for Parker.
When will action kick off?
will tommorow be a monster day or will deadline day be absoulote bedlum
its gotta explode at some stage doesnt it???
- tim
Hi Tim,
I reckon I might dust off the crystals to manifest some trade moves tomorrow.
I can't imagine all these teams want to leave it until the deadline to get some of these deals done.
Is Jordan de Goey on the move?
could the pies offload de goey for barrass heard something about them maybe looking at the possibility they asked the question to west coast
but unsure how the eagles responded
- jason
Hi Jason,
I haven't seen it reported anywhere credible that Jordan de Goey is on the trade table this year.
As for Tom Barrass, at this stage at least, it appears that it is either Hawthorn or a return to West Coast for him.
Could Collingwood land Houston and Robertson?
Could both Houston and Robertson both end up at the Pies? Reports seem to be on one can happen. Why would that be the case?
- Christian
Recent reports from Code Sports suggests Deven Robertson is keen on a move to Collingwood.
I can't imagine Robertson would cost the Pies much in terms of draft capital, but their primary focus would be on Dan Houston at this stage.
Here's what Kane Cornes and Sam Edmund said this morning on the links between Robertson and the Pies.
Where are the Kangaroos in the Dan Houston chase?
Any chance north can get houston and if so what would the deal be
- Tim
Hi Tim,
North still appears to think it is a legitimate shot at landing Dan Houston.
According to AFL.com.au, the Kangaroos are attempting to turn next year's first-round pick into an early draft choice in this year's draft, which they could then flip Port Adelaide's way.
Collingwood still appears to be the frontrunner at this stage.
Which late draft picks have blossomed
Hi!
I love seeing all the low numbers get thrown around as draft capital.. are there any/many stories of extremely low draft picks (eg 60+) having incredible careers or turning into monster players?
- Jape
Hi Jape,
There's been a few draft steals throughout the years.
Not exactly 60+, but Dane Swan being picked by Collingwood at pick 58 in 2001 is a major winner.
Then there's probably the all-time greatest draft heist, Essendon grabbing James Hird at pick 79 in 1990.
Brian Lake was taken by the Bulldogs at pick 71 in 2001 and ended up winning a Norm Smith Medal, albeit at a different club.
The Bulldogs grabbed Chris Grant with pick 105 in the 1988 draft and he wound up being one of the greatest players in the club's history.
In recent years, Lachie Neale (pick 58, 2011) and Robbie Gray (pick 55, 2006) are some more all-time draft steals.
