Donald Trump declared he “loves Puerto Rico”, as he continued his bid to limit the damage with the crucial voting group in Pennsylvania after a comedian called Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage” at his rally in New York last week.
Trump brought Roberto Clemente Jr, the son of a former Pittsburgh Pirates baseball player, to the stage to share an endorsement. Clemente is Puerto Rican.
In another guest appearance, former Fox News host Megyn Kelly appeared to speak in support of Trump.
In 2015, Trump drew derision for saying Kelly had “blood coming out of her eyes, out of her wherever” after she questioned him during a Republican presidential debate.
Despite leaving Fox News soon after the incident, and a brief stint on NBC, Kelly is firmly behind Trump.
“He will not look at our boys like they’re second-class citizens,” she told the crowd in an appeal to men.
“Guys like you, guys like these guys, who have got the calluses on their hands, who work for a living with the beards and the tats … [men who] don’t want to be judged by people like Oprah and Beyoncé, who will never have to face the consequences of [Harris’] disastrous economic policies.”
