Daley, who previously coached NSW for five Origin series against Queensland’s greatest team between 2013 and 2017, has once again been entrusted to try and continue the work started by Maguire.

The Blues won their first series in the past three years under Maguire with a series-clinching win in the decider at Suncorp Stadium.

Daley won six games from 15 matches in charge of NSW. He was responsible for ending Queensland’s eight consecutive series wins in 2014 before he was axed from the job in 2017 and Brad Fittler took over.

The former Blues star, who played in 23 Origin matches between 1989 and 1999, was given the all-clear by ARL Commission chairman Peter V’landys last month to return to the job after there were ongoing issues with his association with the TAB.

Daley hosts The Big Sports Breakfast on Sky Sports Radio with Gerard Middleton and Michael Clarke, and he also plays a role as a spokesman for the TAB, making appearances on The Late Show with Matty Johns on Fox Sports. However, Daley was told he will need to stop spruiking odds on that show to get the Blues job.

The NRL stopped Daley from working as a consultant at Manly in 2022 because of his involvement with the TAB, a wagering operator, and concerns about conflicts of interest.

The NSWRL are also unveiled their women’s Origin coach on Monday morning, with Roosters John Strange taking over after Kylie Hilder stepped down from the job following consecutive series losses.

The two newly appointed coaches will be officially announced at a press conference at 11.30am.

More to come.
