An estimated 25 percent of Syrian refugee children in Jordan are not enrolled in schools. Some refugee teachers of Kherbet Al-Souk have taken it into their own hands to educate their children. This is school life in one of Jordan's informal camps, a cluster of tents that is home to around 500 Syrian refugees.
Jamal Shahadeh opened a school at a refugee settlement near Amman, where all the residents are Bedouin relatives.
The Kherbet Al-Souk settlement was established about nine months ago. The children tried to attend the local public school but many could not find a place. Those who could were harassed and bullied by other kids on the way, according to their parents.
