Group Captain Catherine McGregor, who describes herself as “the highest-ranking trans-woman military official in the world”, will lead a RightsTalk next week entitled My Gender Journey.
Hosted by the Australian Human Rights Commission and Human Rights Commissioner Tim Wilson, this free event is on 19 November at 12.30pm in Sydney.
Group Captain McGregor is a speechwriter and strategic adviser to the Chief of the Air Force. Her career in the Australian Regular Army spans 40 years, during which she has held a variety of regimental and staff appointments including deployment as the Commanding Officer of the Australian Army Training Team in Timor Leste.
Awarded the Order of Australia in 2012 for exceptional service to the Australian Army, Group Captain McGregor was recently named one of Australia’s 50 most powerful women by the Australian Women’s Weekly.
In her earlier life, Group Captain McGregor was well-known as a political commentator whose name was Malcolm. She commenced living as a woman in 2012 and her story was documented on Australian Story in February 2014.
