Australia’s Human Rights Commission Tim Wilson will host a web-stream on Wednesday 19 November at 2.30pm as part of the Rights and Responsibilities 2014 national consultation.
Questions for Commissioner Wilson can be emailed to events@humanrights.gov.au or tweeted to the Commissioner via @timwilsoncomau
“We want to generate positive and constructive conversations about human rights in Australia,” Commissioner Wilson said.
“Our focus is on what each of us can contribute to achieve better protection of rights and freedoms, and to build an understanding of the responsibilities that come with this.
“We need to broaden the discussion beyond current debates and talk about freedom of expression, religion and association, the right to property, the right not to be detained arbitrarily and right to trial by jury.
“These rights are central to the autonomy and dignity of every Australian to participate in our liberal democracy, society and economy.”
Commissioner Wilson has released a discussion paper and hosted public forums around Australia as part of this national consultation.
The next public forum is in Singleton on 20 November, then Hobart on 24 November, Lorne on 25 November, and Melbourne on 26 November. Details are online at http://www.humanrights.gov.au/rights-responsibilities-2014
