Road Nationals – Von Hoff Steele the best; Green and gold right medicine for Wells
Australia's best cyclists sizzled in sultry conditions on the opening day of the Mars Cycling Australia Road National Championships in Ballarat on Wednesday.
However with temperatures hovering in the high 30's and threatening thunderstorms on the out-skirts of Ballarat, thousands of cycling fans lined the Ballarat CBD for the twilight criterium to see Victoria's Steele von Hoff (NFTO) defend his crown while Canberra's Kimberley Wells re-claimed her 2013 title.
In the under-23 men's race, Bendigo's Chris Hamilton (Avanti Racing) out-lasted a fast approaching peloton to clinch a gutsy solo victory.
