New to VEA - Around one in every 100 people has an Autism Spectrum Disorder or ASD. There is a wide range of behavioural characteristics, learning and social difficulties experienced by those with ASDs. Many high functioning individuals with ASDs attend regular schools, but typically experience challenges in coping – particularly in relation to social interaction with other students and teachers.
Girton Grammar School in regional Victoria runs a highly successful program called HQ, which caters specifically for students with ASDs. It provides a retreat for these students away from the normal classroom, which is staffed by trained professionals who work closely on an individual basis with the students. This video explores Girton Grammar’s HQ program through the eyes of students, staff and parents.
