70 severely burned refugees arrived at Lampedusa Island off the coast of Italy earlier this week.
The refugees said that "traffickers held them in Libya before placing them on boats, and a gas cylinder exploded, killing several people and injuring many others. The traffickers would not allow them to leave and reach the hospital, so they didn't get treatment for few days and then they were put on a rubber dinghy," said Barbara Molinario, a UNHCR spokesperson.
UNHCR speaks to survivors of the tragedy as they await news of their loved ones.
