The Multicultural Liaison Officer (MLO) program is one of many dynamic initiatives used by police services to help new arrivals when they settle in Australia.
Working closely with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship, the Australian Federal Police (AFP) has implemented an MLO program to alleviate language and cultural issues new arrivals encounter when dealing with Australian laws. The program also demonstrates that police are there to help and are people to go to in an emergency - something new arrivals may not have been able to rely upon in their country of origin.
