A teenage BMX racer is in a critical but stable condition at Perth Children’s Hospital after a crash during a race at yesterday’s BMXA Bad Boy National Series.

Caitlin Jong, 13, was treated by paramedics at the track after the race fall before she was rushed to hospital.

In a social media post, BMX Australia said the Darwin-based racer had received an outpouring of support from the Australian BMX community.

A message posted on behalf of the Jong family said they wanted to “thank everyone for their many kindnesses, well wishes and prayers”.

“We are ever grateful for the prompt and professional care Caitlin received at the track, and with the paramedics,” the family said.

“She continues to receive the best care possible from the staff at Perth Children’s Hospital.

“Her condition is critical but stable. Please keep her in your prayers and continue those loving and healing thoughts.”

Caitlin’s home club, Satellite City BMX Club, also posted its support for the young star.

“Some BMX families may be aware that Satellite City BMX rider Caitlin Jong had a bad crash at the BMXA Bad Boy National Series this weekend,” the post said.

“The Club feels it prudent to let the family know that the Satellite City BMX Club and the wider BMX family are here and ready to support Caitlin and her family wherever and whenever they can.

“For the purpose, this post may be used by BMX families to pass on their well wishes.

“Until we know further, we send our love and best wishes to Caitlin and her family.”
