For the millions of Game of Thrones (GoT) fans in Australia, today marks the end of the wildly popular HBO series when someone will sit rightfully — hopefully — on the coveted iron throne.

Catch up on our season 8 recaps:

But the legend will live on beyond today's finale in one Australian household, where a couple's powerful pooch rules the roost so much that she has her own iron throne on which to watch the popular TV show.

Matt Lee, an industrial designer and fantasy film fan, made the shields and mini iron throne-themed bed for Pika the Pomeranian.

His wife Michelle Lee was eager for the pampered pooch to be part of the family affair on her husband's tours to medieval festivals, where he showcased his craftsmanship.

"She is basically like a queen at home so we were thinking 'Why not make her a throne so she can feel like a queen?'," Ms Lee said.

The couple, from Bathurst in the New South Wales central west, said married life and work meant they were behind on GoT episodes and dodged spoilers online.

"It is super hard — especially with the dog bed going viral," Mr Lee said.

But they were looking forward to settling down with their pooches, with Pika on her rightful throne, to finish the series.

"They love watching TV, so I think they would really relate to what's going with Game of Thrones if they had a bed to do it on," Mr Lee said.

GoT brings couple together

Michelle Lee recalled that her would-be husband's passion for making shields and medieval relics did not initially spark feelings of deep attraction.

"When me and Matt were first getting to know each other he told me he made shields and I thought that was a little lame," she said.

But his recreation of the iconic Game of Thrones map, the map of Westeros, may have saved the day.

"He was showing me around his shields and I was like 'What is this guy doing with his life?'

"And then he showed me his Game of Thrones map and it was actually so impressive that it made me go 'Oh wow, this guy is actually skilled'.

"So I would say that Game of Thrones, in a sense, brought us together."
