Panthers young gun Thomas Jenkins was on the end of a brutal shoulder from Sharks half Braydon Trindall.

The 20-year-old ducked into a tackle and was met with the right shoulder of the Cronulla half.

Jenkins was taken from the field for a HIA and Trindall was marched off the field for 10 minutes.

“He’s in some trouble,” Fox League expert Braith Anasta said after the brutal shot.

Being a frontrunner to lineup alongside new recruit Nicho Hynes, Trindall be set for some time on the sidelines with a suspension.

Trindall has since returned to the field with no team yet to cross the line and record any points.

Panthers winger Turuva has been a standout in attack for the mountain men, leading the game for run metres with 72.

The Sharks were unable to record any points after two sets on the opposition’s tryline.

Luckily the Panthers were able to clean up Trindall’s grubber kick on the right hand side and a penalty on the 40 metre line has given them a chance to attack the Sharks line.

This led to a brilliant try from Kurt Falls courtesy of a brilliant banana kick from Robert Jennings.

Halfback Sean O’Sullivan put Izack Tago in space, allowing Jenkings to chip the ball back across to Falls.

The rookie half had his back to the try-line but was able to time his put-down brilliant to record the first points of the game.

With only five minutes to go in the half, the son of Panthers legend Mark Geyer entered the field.

Then, courtesy of a brilliant short ball from halfback Sean O’Sullivan, Mavrik Geyer was able to put a huge right hand fend on his marker and charge over from 20 metres out.

“We have a new MG. That is amazing. Mavrik Geyer, had he touched the ball before. Where is MG. Mavrik Geyer scores a try for Penrith. What a moment,” Commentator Andrew Voss said.

While Braith Anasta added: “Dreams do come true.”

“We have earmarked him to play that role at least somewhat,” Ivan Cleary said of Tago playing in the centres this season.

Son of Panthers legend Mark Geyer - Mavrik - will also come off the bench for Penrith.

“He’s a great kid, perfect development player, lots of talent but very raw,” Cleary said of Geyer.

Meanwhile, the Sharks new era kicks off will line-up with a strong and experienced forward pack.

Jayden Berrell will get a chance to show his skills at hooker, while Royce Hunt, Siosifa Talakai, Teig Wilton and Braden Helim-Uele all line up in the forwards having featured for the Cronulla side in the regular 2021 season.

Braydon Trindall, one of Craig Fitzgibbon’s halves options to pair with new signings Nicho Hynes, will slot into the No.7 jersey and will be hoping to deliver and grab a starting spot for Round 1.

“I don’t know,” Hynes said as to who will partner him.

“We’ll have to see after the next few weeks of the trials. I won’t give anything away.”
