“The impact of this evil, senseless act of violence, taking Dusty Rose away from the people that love her, has been devastating and heart-wrenching.”

The attack happened just hours after Rose arrived at the caravan park about 30 minutes north-east from Perth, and all because she tried to help calm an argument.
State prosecutor Fiona Clare told the court earlier this week that on the night of the attack, Winmar had been arguing with a 51-year-old man at unit 231 in the caravan park.
Winmar was about four months pregnant at the time and claimed the man was the father.
In a statement he later gave to police, the man said he had told Winmar he wanted to take a paternity test and believed this is what made her furious, but she was already agitated and spiralling and had also been drinking.
Another resident at the park later told police: “I don’t think I have ever seen a woman that angry.”
Rose, who had checked into the neighbouring unit 232, ventured out when she heard yelling and tried to talk to Winmar, but returned to her unit soon after.

Winmar then picked up a steak knife in each hand and went to Rose’s unit. Rose had her hands raised when Winmar swung the knife in her right hand down into Rose’s chest, puncturing a lung and her heart.
An off-duty nurse living at the caravan park helped treat Rose while an ambulance was called, and she was taken to hospital but died in the following days after her life support was turned off.
Winmar, 31, later pleaded guilty to Rose’s murder.
