A man has been taken into custody after police failed to revive a woman at a home in the state’s north.
Police arrived at a home on Johnston Street in Casino, 30 kilometres west of Lismore, about 2.30am on Saturday after receiving a call concerning the welfare of a woman in her 40s.
When they arrived, police assisted the woman, who was in a serious condition, however she died at the scene.
The woman is yet to be formally identified.
Police arrested a 31-year-old man at the scene and took him to Lismore police station, where he was assisting with inquiries.
Police believe the man and woman know each other.
Investigators have established a crime scene and a critical incident team from Tweed/Byron Police District will investigate all circumstances surrounding the incident – including the police response.
NSW Police must investigate all critical incidents involving a NSW police officer that results in a death or serious injury. They are not misconduct investigations, but police must consider any evidence or complaints of misconduct as part of their inquiries.
