Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and the rest of the band are considering suing the American singer for copyright infringement over her song Get Free as they see it as being too similar to their massive 1992 worldwide hit Creep, reports The Sun.

The song is the last track on Del Rey’s fifth album Lust for Life, which was released last year and went straight to number one in the US and UK, and the fact she appears to have been heavily influenced by the classic song hasn’t gone unnoticed.

A source said: “Both teams are trying to thrash it out behind the scenes to prevent it from going to court.

“It’s understood that Radiohead’s team are hoping for the band to either receive compensation or be credited on the list of songwriters to receive royalties.”

Right now the album track’s only writing credits are for Lana, Kieron Menzies and Rick Nowels (who was also behind Dido’s hit White Flag).

If Del Rey is hauled into court she won’t be the first pop star forced to fight a legal battle over similar songs.

Back in 2014 the late Tom Petty and ELO’s Jeff Lynne were paid royalties by Sam Smith over his hit song Stay With Me sounding similar to Petty’s hit I Won’t Back Down.

And a Los Angeles jury decided that Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams had unfairly taken aspects of Marvin Gaye’s hit Got To Give It Up when they wrote the smash hit Blurred Lines.

The song’s comment section on YouTube is packed with posts comparing the songs.

“Really love Lana Del Rey but this song like Creep from Radiohead,” one user said, while another argues: “I think the melody might be inspired by it and similar, but it’s definitely not a complete rip off. They are two completely different songs.”

“This is a carbon copy of Radiohead Creep! And that’s why it’s good …” one said.

But some users stuck up for the beleaguered singer.

“Everyone’s saying this sounds like Creep by Radiohead. I think the melody might be inspired by it and similar, but it’s definitely not a complete rip off,” another added.

Lana Del Rey came to prominence in 2011 after the release of her mega hit Video Games.

Her major label debut album Born to Die received widespread acclaim, particularly the track Summertime Sadness, which was a worldwide hit.

British band Radiohead have sold more than 30 million albums worldwide, and are considered one of the most influential acts of the past few decades.

In 2017, they were nominated for entry into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but were not among the five inductees announced in December, which instead went to Bon Jovi, Dire Straits, The Moody Blues, The Cars and Nina Simone.
