“I think the personnel’s settled,” vice-captain Pat Cummins said. “I think the only time there might be some changes is just tactical changes within a game.

“It’s really common in T20; you’re quite fluid with the batters order, pending on match-ups, game situation. I think we were quite settled, but you might see someone jump back and forth a spot or two depending on the match.”

Australia’s woes at the top of the batting order were exposed in the practice match thumping to India in which they slumped to 3-11 and could not post a competitive total despite strong performances from Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell and Stoinis.

Significantly, all three have become accustomed to conditions in the Middle East, having taken part in the recently completed Indian Premier League.

Warner said during his lean 2019 Ashes series that he was out of runs rather than out of form, and the same could apply now given he has not been out in the middle long enough to accurately gauge how well, or poorly, he is hitting the ball.

Luck has also deserted Warner, who was spectacularly caught by Martin Guptill after advancing down the track in Australia’s other warm-up match. He was also the victim of a line-ball lbw call playing a reverse-sweep to India’s Ravichandran Ashwin in his latest outing.

That Warner was still prepared to play with adventure was seen as a positive by Cummins, who says the left-hander’s record bought him credits for his recent run.

“I think it’s really easy in search for runs to be tentative, but T20 is not a format to be tentative,” Cummins said. “We want him and all our batters to be fearless. We want him to keep playing his way.”

The composition of Australia’s attack is still to be finalised, with selectors yet to decide whether to play four or five specialist bowlers.

A four-prong attack could result in IPL winner Josh Hazlewood being squeezed out, while all-rounder Stoinis could make way if a fifth specialist bowler is deemed necessary.
