The foster-parents of William Tyrrell will enter a plea to allegations that they assaulted a child when the matter returns to court next month.

That child is not William and William has no connection to these charges.

Strike Force Rosann officers charged the couple, who the Herald is prohibited from identifying, with common assault last week.

“As part of ongoing investigations under Strike Force Rosann, detectives from the homicide squad received information relating to the suspected assault of a child at a home on Sydney,” police said in a statement.

The matter was mentioned at a Sydney court that also cannot be named on Tuesday.

In continuing to suppress the matter, the court magistrate said: “How is this so interesting? Leaving aside the connection to other matters, in every court in NSW, there are matters not dissimilar to the complaint raised here. In fact, last Tuesday I dealt with a far more serious allegation in relation to a five-year-old child. What’s the public interest, other than the clickbait issue? These allegations are not the most serious the criminal courts see, not by any stretch,” she said.

The couple, aged 56 and 54, remain on bail and will return to court next month.

It comes as the latest search for William’s remains in the Mid North Coast town where he disappeared enters its second week as heavy rain hampers efforts.
