The vote is non-binding but was passed by huge a margin with 141 countries in favour.

“You have chosen the right side of history,” President Zelensky told the nations that voted in support of Ukraine.

“A global anti-Putin coalition has been formed and is operating.

“The world is with us. The truth is behind us. The victory will be ours!” he said.

However, there were 35 countries that abstained, among them Australia’s Quad partner - India, as well as China.

The countries who voted with Russia were Belarus, North Korea, Eritrea and Syria.

It was the UN General Assembly’s first emergency session since 1997.
