“This situation is not over and will continue for weeks and months.”

There were 92 roads closed in the Moreton Bay region at 1pm, while more than 10 swift water rescues were done on Tuesday morning in the Bray Park area.

Nikki Boyd, Queensland’s Minister for Fire and Disaster Recovery and the local MP for Pine Rivers, said there were completely devastating scenes.

“No one wants to wake up to this this morning,” she told Nine News.

“Sadly for a lot of community members, this is the second event they’ve had in two years where their homes have been inundated with water.”

Boyd said she had been on the phone to Premier Steven Miles and Flannery to organise skip bins so that people’s flood-ruined items could be disposed of immediately.

Hours after the rain eased, dozens of roads remained closed across Moreton Bay, including Gympie Road at the South Pine River bridge in Bald Hills.

At least six schools across Brisbane and Moreton Bay council areas were closed, with the Education Department saying they would reopen when the severe weather had subsided.

“Due to severe rain and the flooding of key school access points, it is unsafe for parents and students to seek to arrive at school,” St Paul’s School at Bald Hills wrote on Facebook on Tuesday morning.

“We apologise for the inconvenience but safety of our staff and students is paramount.”
