WA Premier Roger Cook has just announced a massive land release, with 6000 new residential lots in Perth’s north and south to go on sale in an attempt to ease the state’s housing shortage crisis.

The lots will be available in Perth’s urban fringes in Eglinton (50km north of CBD) and Karnup (60km south of CBD).

A further 900 lots will also be released for social housing, with the urban expansion expected to eventually house 16,000 people.

Expressions of interest are now open for developers with preferred proponents to be selected by mid-2025.

Deputy Premier Rita Saffioti said the sites would be developed into vibrant and connected communities.

“We know there is a need to boost housing supply and having development-ready land, close to key transport nodes like new Metronet train stations is absolutely critical,” she said.

“With proximity to major transport links like the Kwinana Freeway and the new Metronet Yanchep link, the 16,000 future residents in these new developments will easily be able to travel around Perth for work, study and recreation.”

The Karnup site is located adjacent to the Kwinana Freeway, and close to a future train station, while the Eglinton sites are close to the Yanchep train line.
