USC content style guide

This on the web version of the University Publications Editorial Style Guide contains many changes and additions, which we show throughout with a image for easy reference.

A few of these changes address issues specific to Web content and are mentioned with symbolic.

We first published the Editorial Style Guide in March 1996 to provide consistency among people of our own division and among the many offices throughout the University. We also needed to advise our customers of the guidelines we'd use when editing copy presented to the office.

You will find available many instructions to writing style, so why couldnt we only choose some of those? Much like any business, there are certain language events that are specific to the University of South Carolina. One file which has these conferences helps every uni-t of every campus to consistently and effectively represent its parent organizationthe University of South Carolina.

It also became clear that many grammatical problems arise everyday and that a quick reference to these would be helpful, as we developed the information. For answers to other issues of spelling and style, we consult Libel Manual and the Associated Press Stylebook, the American Heritage Dictionary, and Websters New Collegiate Dictionary.

Naturally, issues of consumption and style continue to evolve, and while they do we shall continue to examine and update the information.
