Police are hunting a sniper who shot a 72-year-old man as he was riding a bike in country Victoria.

The man was shot to his upper body as he rode the Myrtleford-Everton Rail Trail in Everton in the state's north east about midday Saturday.

Paramedics took him to hospital and he was then flown to Melbourne with non-life threatening injuries.

It was the second shooting in regional Victoria on Saturday.

A 43-year-old is fighting for life after being shot in the upper body during a fight in Tatura.

He was shot about 1pm and flown to hospital in Melbourne, police say.

They believe he and another man were involved in a dispute before the incident and were interviewing a 54-year-old Tatura man.
