A MAN accused of stabbing his wife of five years to death last night had just found out she was having an affair, his defence lawyer said outside court.

Bangladeshi migrant Shahab Ahmed, 33, has been charged with the murder of his 33-year-old wife, Khondkar Faihi Elahi.

He didn’t apply for bail after appearing briefly on the video link at Parramatta Bail Court this afternoon.

Defence lawyer Zemarai Khatiz told the court his client was in a “very distressed and emotional state” and he would apply for bail at his next court appearance.

Speaking outside the court Mr Khatiz said the accused was in a state of shock and emotional distress.

“My client was married for a period of five years when he found out the deceased was having an affair,” he said. “And the relationship came to a very tragic end.”

He said the accused did not have a history of violence and worked in the city.

Magistrate Andrew George adjourned the matter to Parramatta Court on Monday.

Emergency crews found the badly injured woman after being called to a home on Campbell St, Parramatta just before 10pm.

Paramedics performed CPR, desperately trying to revive the victim as they wheeled her out of the unit block on a stretcher and into the ambulance.

She was taken to Westmead hospital where she later died

Police arrested 33-year-old Shahab Ahmed and took him to Parramatta police station for questioning.
