The final weekend of the Australian summer looks set to be an absolute scorcher for Perth, with a hot and sunny day expected on Saturday as the mercury rises to 40 degrees.

The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting a zero per cent chance of rain and says there will be winds easterly 15 to 25 km/h tending northeasterly in the morning then becoming light in the middle of the day.

How to stay safe in the sun

Mark Strickland from the Cancer Council WA shares his top five tips to stay safe in the sun this summer.

That's perfect for boating, fishing, hitting the beach, swimming to Rotto, enjoying a picnic, catching the cricket, attending the Perth Writer's Festival or doing any of the other things we'd like to have done over the last three months but couldn't because the weather sucked.

And it stays that way for a while, with Perth set to enjoy a long run of hot days deep into next week.

The South West and Great Southern regions of the state will enjoy hot and sunny weather this weekend too, with the Goldfields-Esperance, Mid West and Wheatbelt regions also in for summery conditions.

Up north, the Gascoyne will have hot and sunny weather, with the Pilbara and Kimberly's wet season continuing its record breaking deluges, with hot temperatures and plenty of rainfall expected.

Perth 7 day forecast:
Friday - 19,37, sunny
Saturday - 22,40, very hot and sunny
Sunday - 19, 30, sunny
Monday - 17, 30, sunny
Tuesday - 18,32, mostly sunny
Wednesday - 19, 32, partly cloudy
Thursday - 19, 34, sunny
