The hunt for a man wanted over his brother's murder in a Melbourne shopping centre continues.

Police are scouring homeless shelters and soup kitchens for Jonathan Dick, who may be armed with knives and is wanted for questioning over his brother David's murder last month.

David Dick, 36, was slashed across the head with a sword as he stepped out of a car park lift at Westfield Doncaster shopping centre on February 3, dying at the scene.

Jonathan Dick was seen on CCTV at the scene and his car was found in Ivanhoe East more than a week after the attack with the sword inside.

Police believe he has little remaining money.

The 39-year-old is described as Caucasian and 180cm tall with short grey hair and a solid build. He has a wolverine and sabre-tooth tiger tattoo on his right thigh and another tattoo on one of his calves.

Police have warned the public not to approach him as he may be carrying a number of knives.
