A MAN is fighting for his life after being knocked unconscious during a savage carjacking in Melbourne’s east late yesterday.
The 32-year-old suffered head injuries when he was assaulted by two men on Massey St, Box Hill South about 6pm.
Victoria Police said he was attacked by at least two men who stole his black 2013 Honda CRV, registration ZRK-896.
The man’s shocked wife, who requested he not be named, has agreed for photos to be published by the Herald Sun as she keeps vigil at his bedside.
The man lives with his parents-in-law, who today are caring for his one-month-old newborn baby.
“I was at work and my husband was about to pick me up from my shop,” she said.
“I see Australia as a safe country but this happened and it’s happened to me so really a surprise and I still can’t accept that.”
The woman speculated the attack was random.
“I’m still focused on my husband so I’m not very sure but I think it’s kind of random,” she said.
“But the guys who did this they were prepared, they chose the right time because there is no-one on the street.”
The Asian woman, who lives with her immediate family, said she had been unable to speak to her partner since the assault.
“I have spent almost the whole time with him but I can’t speak with him, he’s asleep, (the doctors) have put him to sleep,” she said.
Witnesses said one of the attackers escaped in another car.

The victim was taken to Box Hill Hospital before he was later transported to the Royal Melbourne where his wife is maintaining a close vigil.
An Ambulance Victoria spokesman this morning said he was in a serious but stable condition when he arrived at Box Hill, although police cited his condition as critical.
Residents of the street where the attack happened say they saw police and ambulance vehicles at the property last night.
It’s understood the family recently moved to the area.
