Gennady Golovkin has lost his world middleweight titles after a majority decision defeat to Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in their highly-anticipated rematch.

A year after their first fight ended in a controversial draw, Alvares survived a late barrage from Golovkin to clinch a points win in Las Vegas.

Two judges scored the fight 115-113 to Alvarez while the other had it at 114-114.

"He's a great fighter but I'm a great fighter and I showed it tonight," Alvarez said after he claimed the World Boxing Council, World Boxing Association and International Boxing Federation belts.

The Kazakh and Mexican boxers went blow for blow in the bout, with Golovkin pushing home an advantage into round 11 when a right hand saw Alvarez on the ropes.
