We’re a week into winter, but you can put aside your ugg boots and down jackets for a while, with a string of unusually warm, spring-like days ahead.

After a short burst of cold weather, a run of unseasonably warm weather is on the cards for Sydney and the rest of south-east Australia.

The mercury will creep past 20 degrees on Friday and hover around 22 over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend before climbing to 26 next Wednesday.

"The cold air is now heading towards New Zealand, across the Tasman Sea, and warmer air is starting to return to south-east Australia from the interior," Weatherzone meteorologist Ben Domensino said.
