VERDICT
The July’s battery can simultaneously charge multiple devices and easily ejects so there’s no fuss if the bag needs to be checked in. It’s considerably cheaper, without any obvious shortcomings in quality. If you’re happy to BYO powerpack, the Victorinox’s tiny tools and slightly more stylish design might appeal.

Easily popped in and out of a discreet cavity, the battery has subtle LEDs indicating how well charged it is. The case’s external corners are reinforced with anodised aluminium, the user-friendly telescopic handle locks wherever you want and there are carry handles on both top and side. It’s available in five colours, including burgundy and navy, but can only be purchased online from July (a low-overhead approach that helps keep the price low).

The port is behind a tray with Swiss Army knife-style compact ingenuity: it contains an ID label, miniature pen and a tool for ejecting SIM cards – so there’s no hunting for pins on arrival during international travel. The lock combination recovery program is also handy, but the internal pouch designed for a Swiss Army knife seems odd for carry-on luggage. Available in black, grey and red, it’s arguably slightly more stylish both inside and out.
