ANTI-viral drug Tamiflu is being rushed to Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Services in a bid to stop the spread of a deadly flu during one of the worst seasons in recent years.

Health Minister Steven Miles said flu notifications on the Coast were up 390 per cent to 1208, which is four times the average for the same time across the past five years.

"This also includes 52 hospitalisation and four admissions to intensive care,” Mr Miles said.

"This medication helps to prevent flu if it's going around, and will also help lessen the severity of symptoms for those that catch it.”

Free government-funded vaccines are available to eligible Queenslanders, or can be purchased from GPs and immunisation providers.
