They’re also for business users. You can wear both on the run into work, and then just have one ear in during the day to use it like the Bluetooth earpieces you see on share traders or SHIELD agents. Because there’s no master ear bud, you can use either (or switch between them while charging), and there’s controls on both, which is extra helpful. The call quality on them is very good, with people I spoke to only aware I was using a headset after I told them.
On the subject of battery life, these are actually pretty impressive for true wireless. Each ear has nine hours built in, and the battery case provides an extra 24, which should get you through if you forget to charge them for a few days.
The battery case holds a full 24 hours worth of charge.
The main area they fall down in is the fit. The in-ear design is an odd choice for exercise headphones, and makes them pretty unsafe to wear while cycling or running outdoors. Though, it does make them perfect for wearing in the gym to block out whatever terrible dub step remixes of former Disney stars they’re inflicting upon their members. And, for $350, this would likely be your main pair of headphones, so the in-ear design makes them more useful for commuting.
So why not include the more comfortable and versatile comply foam ear tips? There are four sizes of ear tips included with these headphones, and while the medium perfectly fit my right ear, my left is in that awkward middle size between small and medium. This is something usually easily overcome with the more malleable comply foam, which increases the number of people who will be able to comfortably wear the headphones.
The other problem with the fit is the rigidity of the ear hooks. I’m sure that after a few months of being broken in they would become more comfortable (as my Powerbeats 3s did), but out of the box they pinch the ear quite hard and become extremely painful after more than an hour of wear. After wearing them for a cumulative total of roughly 18 hours, they’ve either started to loosen up a very little, or my ear is numb. But when the Plantronics BackBeat Fit 3100 ear hooks are so much better and more comfortable out of the box, and fit so many more ears, it’s hard to justify why Powerbeats need such tough and unforgiving hooks.
In the end, they sound good, and have very impressive batteries, but you’ll want to make sure they fit you properly before dropping that much money on them.
