Mundy echoed those sentiments on Tuesday after another attack from Cornes in the media.

"Well Kane is obviously making a lot of headlines at the moment, and he loved chatting when he was playing, and that hasn't changed," Mundy said on Tuesday.

"I'll listen to people and comments that I really value. Unfortunately for Kane ... he's not one of them."

Mundy also leapt to the defence of skipper Nat Fyfe after North Melbourne great Wayne Carey said the Brownlow medallist needed to toughen up.

Lyon expressed his anger and frustration at the off-the-ball hits Fyfe copped during last week's loss to Hawthorn.

Fyfe also highlighted the treatment he was receiving off the ball, which included opponents targeting his injured shoulder.

Mundy felt the criticism levelled at Fyfe was unfair.

"I feel those comments are a little bit over the top," Mundy said.

"That kind of stuff has been happening in the history of AFL football ... and Nat has been exposed to that before and worked through it and dealt with it.

"He was just putting it on the public forum that it's one of the things he's trying to deal with at the moment."

Mundy said the the club would employ a team approach to protecting Fyfe during Saturday night's clash with Sydney in Perth.

Lyon is contracted for 2020, but pressure is growing on him following the recent string of disappointing defeats.

Mundy said Lyon had the full faith of the player group, and labelled the criticism of the veteran coach as "over the top and undue".

"The playing group are really in it together with him and really bonded with him closely," Mundy said.

"I think he's doing a great job on game day, and Monday to Friday he's a great coach."

Mundy, a veteran of 310 games who will turn 34 later this week, said he was keen to play on next year if the club is eager to have him.
