Lachie Neale has capped a superb season in which he was pivotal to the Brisbane Lions' stunning rise, claiming the Merrett-Murray Medal as club champion.

In front of more than 760 supporters at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre on Saturday night, Neale led through the entire count, polling 386 votes, and was presented with the trophy by club greats Roger Merrett and Kevin Murray.

Captain Dayne Zorko (348) was runner-up, receiving the Niger Lappin Trophy, while midfielder Hugh McCluggage (322) was third, claiming the Alastair Lynch Trophy.

In his first season after crossing from Fremantle, Neale played in all 24 matches including the two losing finals - the first time the Lions had featured in September in a decade.
