A married father of one, Finch has previously admitted he hit “rock bottom’’ after retiring from playing in 2013.

“It took a few years, it took three trips to rehab facilities,” Finch told The Matty Johns Podcast. “I learned a lot about myself and the things that I’m dealing with. I had to realise I’m not going to get the highs I had in footy and for so long I was chasing that.”

Finch played club football for Canberra, the Roosters, Parramatta, Melbourne and Wigan but is most famous for kicked the winning field goal for NSW after being called into the Blues squad on the eve of the opening match of the 2006 State of Origin series.
