Ben Simmons did not have his best scoring game in the NBA but he still provided a double-double as the Philadelphia 76ers overcame the stubborn Detroit Pistons 117-111.

The Australian made just five of his 13 field-goal attempts, and three of seven from the free-throw line for 13 points, to go with 10 assists, seven steals and four rebounds as the 76ers made it two wins from as many starts this season.

His compatriot Thon Maker had a quiet night for the 1-2 Pistons, with just two points and two rebounds in more than 20 minutes.

In the absence of All-Star centre Joel Embiid, who sat out with a right ankle sprain, Tobias Harris led Philadelphia with 29 points while Al Horford had 23 points.
