Ms Parker says that without Gobbo’s involvement, there would have been no case against Cvetanovski.

“You have got a case where he is not even in the frame until Gobbo facilitates evidence through Cookie," she said.

“We have that familiar behaviour of being intimately involved in the main witness against Cvetanovski while representing Cvetanovski, facilitating information between the two and feeding the prosecution.”

Ms Parker said Cvetanovski had already been granted special leave to have his conviction reviewed by the Court of Appeal and there was an urgency to have his case heard. He becomes eligible for parole in August next year.

Orman a former client of Gobbo, was wrongly convicted of being involved in the 2002 murder of Victor Peirce based on evidence provided by a supergrass with help from Gobbo.

Ms Parker said there was a compelling reason to have those convictions overturned.

“He was convicted on a number of matters, some of which he pleaded guilty to. Nobody is suggesting that this wasn’t a person with significant connections to suspects in serious criminal matters. But his trial was corrupted and any trial corrupted is an injustice done.

“If any person can be convicted in these circumstances then nobody before the criminal justice system is safe.”

Cookie and Gobbo, who were in an intimate relationship, privately ridiculed Cvetanovski for setting up one of Mokbel’s clandestine meth labs next to a suburban primary school. Gobbo told her police handlers the location of the lab after it was disclosed to her by Cookie, a prolific drug cook who had become infatuated with Gobbo.

Victorian Supreme Court Justice Timothy Ginnane, the judge who examined the Lawyer X saga, found in 2017 that Cvetanovski’s conviction may be unsafe.

“Had Cvetanovski known that (Gobbo) was a police informer, he would have been able to explore how police had obtained the key evidence of (Cookie) against him,’’ Justice Ginnane found.

“He would have been able to exercise an informed choice as to whether to argue that (Cookie’s) evidence against him should be excluded. By not being provided with that information he could argued that he was denied a fair trial as required by the criminal law and that the proceedings against him involved an abuse of process.”

Ms Parker said Cvetanovski’s appeal would be lodged next month. The Lawyer X Royal Commission resumes its public hearing on Monday, when it will receive testimony from another of Gobbo’s former clients.
