Microsoft has announced a raft of new Xbox games, as well as additions to its Game Pass subscription and an expansion of its fledgling cloud streaming service, at a presentation during its fan-focused X019 event in London. But a Microsoft VP says game streaming won't come to Australia until an appropriate agreement can be reached with local telcos.

Project xCloud, which is currently in preview in the US, UK and South Korea, plays Xbox games on cloud servers and streams the output to players' devices over the internet, meaning high-end games can work even on underpowered machines connected to mobile internet.

At the event Microsoft announced that the preview will be expanding to western Europe, Canada, Japan and India in the coming months. An Australian launch has not been confirmed but Kareem Choudhry, corporate vice president of Project xCloud, said one was in the works.

"We have been approached by multiple telco operators that are based in Australia and we serve that market," he said. "I know data caps are a very prominent issue in the country, and so we want to come to some kind of mutual agreement with the mobile operators and broadband providers."
