The pair remain in regular contact, with Babbel fully aware of how perilous his position will be if Western Sydney cannot turn things around quickly.

"They give me the feeling they trust me 100 per cent, I've never had a different feeling. Even if we won the game it is the same conversation like now," Babbel told the Herald of his conversations with club hierarchy.

"But I'm not stupid, I'm too long in the business. I know, I am the head coach and if the results are not there, you have critics. I have no problems with this, it is absolutely normal."

Asked how badly he needed a win for his own personal circumstances, Babbel said: "This is not only for me - the boys deserve more at the moment. I really wish for the boys, for the club, that we can get the success back because they are working hard.

"But I had the feeling, this is working well and I don't want to do it. There was no player there I had the feeling 'ah, he's struggling, he has problems.'"

The biggest issue remains in attack for Western Sydney, who are ranked ninth in the league for the creation of 'big chances' and 10th for converting them. Babbel said he believed other teams recognised their potential and had resolved to park the bus against them.

"The other teams know, 'Hey, this is a side that can play football. If you give them space, then they can be very dangerous,'" he said.

"The last two games against teams that want to fight for the title, even they stand so deep, more or less the whole time ... Western United again, they play with 11 players 30 metres in front of the goal.

"It's up to us to keep going, find the space, be brave to go with the balls in this space and I believe we will create mare chances."
