In one of the strongest Christmas Eve meetings seen in country racing, border-hopping gelding Wyangle is set to land the Ted Ryder Prelude and Cup double at Tuesday's feature Wagga meeting.
The deep and open eight-race card has attracted runners from across the Riverina and further north, as well as the usual invasion from Canberra and regular Victorian stables. The headline Ted Ryder Cup over a mile serves up a field featuring last-start runs at Flemington, Bendigo and the Wodonga Cup in Victoria; Gosford, Kembla, Canberra and Queanbeyan; as well as those coming out of the Prelude a fortnight back when Wodonga six-year-old Wyangle charged down the middle for the Craig Widdison stable to land a dominant win.

Down 2.5kg, Wyangle looks well placed to do the double, but classy local mare Lady Mironton, Albury warhorse Spunlago, who raced in listed company at Caulfield in early October, and Moruya seven-year-old and last-start BM 70 provincial winner Rinviata, all have strong claims in a fascinating edition.
Earlier, five-furlong specialist Canberra filly Calescent can make it three wins from five in a competitive class 3 handicap (1000m) to open the meeting. Bred for speed by Sizzling out of an Exceed And Excel mare, Calescent drops back from a brave run in a highway, and looks set to repel a showdown with rival Canberra mares, former Victorian four-year-old Honeysuckle Choice and noted five-year-old back-marker Kopaonik.
