Sydney to Hobart favourite Comanche will struggle to take advantage of the light to moderate winds predicted for the bluewater classic, with conditions more suited to major competitor Wild Oats XI.
The weather is likely to put supermaxis Comanche and InfoTrack at a disadvantage in the race, with large, heavy boats requiring strong winds to hit top speeds. Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Gabrielle Woodhouse said the lack of strong winds would give 'skinny boats' Wild Oats XI, Black Jack and Scallywag an advantage.

"For the race start, we are looking at north to northeasterly winds of about 10-15 knots, probably getting up to about 20 once they get out of the heads," Woodhouse said. "Once they get out and start to head further south, we are looking at some kind of southerly that may affect the far southern portion of the NSW coast."
There is still uncertainty around whether the southerly will create any huge winds, but the scenario is looking unlikely. The only winds likely to hit will be across Monday and Tuesday, by which time most of the fleet will have completed the race.
