"And last, is the plight of the animals and loss of their habitat that frankly, is on a biblical scale and heartbreaking.

"Therefore tonight I will be pledging $1 million."

Video posted by former radio journalist Kylie Simmonds showed fans at the Qudos Bank Arena leaping to their feet to give the 72-year old a standing ovation.

All have asked their fans to donate to help volunteer firefighters and wildlife organisations caring for animals who have been injured and lost their habitats.

Some of Australia's wealthiest individuals have also kicked in major donations.

Comedian Celeste Barber's call for donations, kicked off on Facebook on the weekend, has already topped $42 million dollars.
