CASEY DONOVAN

Singer, performer

What I've been watching: I’ve been rewatching Sons of Anarchy on Stan. It’s something where I don't have to think, which is always lovely when I'm working on a show. It’s about a motorcycle gang, a group of rebels, who get up to mischief. It’s a bit gory in parts. I don’t know why I like it. It’s very much not my life at all. I’ve just switched over to The Crown on Netflix, because everyone’s been harping on about it but I keep falling asleep. I think if I stayed awake long enough, I'd enjoy it. My old housemate, who was on my Netflix account, must've started watching it and then I've come in at episode five, not realising that I wasn't on episode one, and I’m like, "What's going on?".

What I’ve been listening to: All my music is on Spotify. I like to listen to different radio stations of different artists and bands. I find a lot of new music that way. I’ve been listening to Munn. It’s folky, singer-songwriter music, really easy listening with nice lyrics. I also love US country music singer Chris Stapleton. His voice is just so heart-wrenchingly beautiful. I listen to music to feel and to emote and to empathise with lyrics. I'm not saying that I don't love a good techno beat or music that makes no sense whatsoever but I do enjoy music with heart and soul and storylines and where you can just disconnect from the world and enjoy the music. When I was driving back and forth from Sydney to Melbourne I was listening to an audiobook of Jodi Picoult’s Small Great Things. I love her writing and this one, which is about racism, is interesting particularly with what's going on with Black Lives Matter.
